How can small appliance brands break away from the single-dimensional presentation? This is the solution OmiBear, as a manufacturing and sales company, is pursuing — transforming cold appliances into more than just tools, making them a part of life’s experience.

Based on this need, we combined two seemingly opposite words: “warmth” and “technology.” “Warmth” represents emotions, feelings, and everything related to sensory experiences, while “technology” represents rationality, calculations, and precision. Together, these words bring a unique vitality, which led us to extend the concept of “chasing the light” as our design strategy.

“Chasing the light” is a modern romantic sentiment. In today’s complex urban environment, people often struggle to stay true to themselves, as they are caught up in complicated relationships that push them in directions contrary to their own desires. Therefore, chasing what they truly want becomes a difficult task. This idea inspired us to design a pair of companions, forming a visual “chasing the light” relationship.

Omi, a character from outer space, represents the light itself. It is a straightforward, innocent glowing entity. Its emotions are expressed through light, using self-illumination and a screen on its face. It becomes its true self and tells its life story in an unreserved, even somewhat unreasonably blunt way. This has a profound influence on its partner, OmiBear, who is thoughtful and sensitive. OmiBear follows the light, breaking through societal biases, always accompanying Omi on their journey towards the light, regardless of the road they must take.

In this story, OmiBear is not the true protagonist; instead, it represents a type of person. OmiBear is like Alice, who mistakenly wandered into the rabbit hole but ultimately followed her heart and lived true to herself. This is the message conveyed through the relationship between Omi and OmiBear.
